Edward Martell is serving his first term on the Board and serves as vice president. He has a J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Law and a B.A. in Political Science from the university. Edward is a criminal law paralegal with Perkins Law Group. He previously served as a policy director in the Michigan House of Representatives. Edward is the first Latino American to serve on the Board. He can be reached at

Debi Pyles

Debi Pyles is serving her first term on the Board as trustee. She has a B.A. in Business Administration from Wayne State University. She has received the MASB Certified Board Member Award and the Merit Award. Debi also received a certificate as a Michigan ACE Community Champion Presenter. Ursula Wester

Ursula Wester

Ursula Wester is serving her first term on the Board and serves as treasurer. She has a B.A. from Cornerstone University and Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Ursula works as a secretary at Tyler Elementary School and has worked in education in Romulus for many years. She and her husband have proudly raised their children in Romulus schools. Denisa Terrell

Denisa Terrell

Term: to

Denisa is serving in her first term on the Board and serves as secretary. She has obtained an M.B.A and B.A. from Spring Arbor University. She has also completed coursework towards her doctorate in business from Walden University and is currently completing her dissertation. Denisa has served as a trustee and chairperson for UAW Local 2500. She has three children whom are proud graduates of Romulus Community Schools. Denisa can be reached at daterrell@romulusk12.org.

Thersa Beard

Thersa Beard

Theresa Beard was appointed to the Board of Education in November 2009 and is currently serving her third 4-year term.  Mrs. Beard is a lifelong Romulus resident and a Romulus High graduate.  Theresa is married with two sons.  Mrs. Beard was the recipient of the 2009 Michigan Council of Exceptional Children Exceptional Parent of the Year Award.  Mrs. Beard was the representative for Romulus Community Schools on the Wayne County Parent Advisory Committee for many years. She has held various officer positions on the WCPAC executive board and Romulus Board of Education.  Mrs. Beard serves on the board policy subcommittee and a member of the Blueprint District Network and MTSS committee.  She is also a member of Michigan Transition Services Association. She is very active in Special Education areas.   Mrs. Beard has received the MASB Level 6 – Master Platinum Board Member Award, Advocacy Skills Specialty Award and Data Specialty Award from Michigan Association of School Boards.  Mrs. Beard anticipates Romulus Community Schools being a district where all children are successful and healthy.

Danielle Funderburg

Danielle Funderburg

Danielle Funderburg is serving her third 4-year term (2016-2020) on the Board as trustee . She has a B.A. in Communication from Oakland University and is a freelance Graphic Designer. Danielle has received the MASB Level 6 – Master Platinum Award, Advocacy Skills Specialty Award and Data Specialty Award.  She serves on Wayne County College Access Network (WayneCAN) Leadership Team since 2011; Wayne County Association of School Boards Executive Board (WCASB) since 2013 and serves as a Board of Education Trustee for Wayne RESA (2017-2023). She's held executive leadership roles while serving on the board and has been a member of various committees throughout the district.  Danielle and her husband of thirty years, have two Romulus Eagles (c/o 2014 & 2016). Funderburgs main platform has been focused on access to post-secondary opportunities and because of that focus Romulus has been the beneficiary of some wonderful programs. "Our job is to cultivate students; help them build confidence in themselves; give them the tools they need to help them make sound career choices and then we must assist them while navigating their chosen pathways". 

Judy Kennard

Appointed to the Board of Education in November 2018 and is serving out a 4-year term.  A Romulus Graduate that has completed doctorial Ph.D. coursework and has earned an MBA from Capella University, a Masters of Science in Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration degrees from Central Michigan University.  Judy completed and received the MASB Level 1 – Master Board Member Award--2020.  Ms. Kennard currently serves on the board policy subcommittee and previously served as President of the board in 2019.  She is “Committed to ensuring a quality education for all students, an advocate of “Safe and High Performing Schools | Parent Enrichment Initiatives | Pathways to Skill Trade Jobs | Increasing S.T.E.M. Program.”
