This school year has been a challenge for everyone to say the least, and we know that our students did their best to learn in this year’s instructional environment. Still, many of our students struggled to meet expectations and need additional time to be ready for the upcoming school year. Romulus Community Schools has put together an 8-week intensive summer school program for all grade levels, kindergarten through 12th grade, to recover learning loss experienced from this year and set our students back on a track for success.
Each school building has worked to identify students based on critical needs who will benefit from the intensive summer school program. Space is limited for summer school, but we are expecting to provide additional learning time for more students than we have ever offered. Students will have blocks of math and reading instruction based on the foundational skills needed for the next grade level taught by highly qualified educators. Within those blocks, students will also have science experiences and enrichment activities to balance out the day. Transportation for all Romulus resident students will be provided and breakfast, snacks, and lunch are on the menu to fuel those hard-working minds.
RCS knows that our students have fallen behind because of the pandemic, and we all must do what is right by our students to ensure they are prepared for life after RCS. This year’s intensive summer school program is one step in closing the learning loss and making sure that there is a course correction for the future of our students. If you have questions about your child’s summer school opportunities, please contact your school’s principal.
