Good Evening RCS Fam:
Yesterday, I learned that we had fallen below the mandatory 75% daily student attendance threshold that is set by the State. When the school district is OPEN, it is critical that students attend school. There are consequences from The State of Michigan for districts that fail to meet this daily threshold, including but not limited to a fine and a makeup of the day (later in the year). No one wants to make the day up in June or lose a day of Spring Break.
School is cancelled tomorrow, as the temperatures are well too low to be outside for students. This is why the decision is made...for those who are awaiting buses, rides, and standing outside for any length of time.
While I continue to make the decisions that I believe best for students, they are not always convenient for families who depend on their children to be in school, receive a balanced breakfast and lunch, and proper heating and cooling. We will open up RHS tomorrow only from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM for any family needing lunch and dinner support.
Hot meal: chicken strips, corn and dinner
Take home: turkey sandwich (with lettuce, tomato, cheese)
Sunbutter sandwich, string cheese, applesauce, muffins
We are prepared to serve 400 of these meals. Please feel free to bear the cold elements to feed your family.
US means US.
Be warm. Be well. Be safe. Engage in some sort of reading with your child (regardless of his/her age). It will be fun.
If you do not have proper heating, please stay with someone you know who does.
